- I had this problem with the 28.8i pnp

- In device manager, removed modem, removed both com ports, went into
- bios setup and DISABLED both com ports. Rebooted and windows added the
- com ports (no number on the first - com 1 on the next. It then asked
- me to reboot. I did and it added the modem on com 2. the com with no
- number had a little yellow slash (conflict) so I disabled it since
- nothing is using it anyways. The key was to disable the ports in the
- bios setup. Give it a try.
