  37. I had this problem with the 28.8i pnp
  38.  
  39.  In device manager, removed modem, removed both com ports, went into
  40. bios setup and DISABLED both com ports. Rebooted and windows added the
  41. com ports (no number on the first - com 1 on the next. It then asked
  42. me to reboot. I did and it added the modem on com 2.  the com with no
  43. number had a little yellow slash (conflict) so I disabled it since
  44. nothing is using it anyways.  The key was to disable the ports in the
  45. bios setup. Give it a try.
